October

Hi guys! I am here to do a quick update. I've returned from vacation two weeks ago and started my seond year of university. I'm glad I had a chance to rest because my school hours went crazy this semester. Besides that I'm not doing much lately besides planning to make home bubble tea. I love this drink and unfortunately, the only one close to where I live closed a long time ago. In the rest of chain shops prices raised, so I figured out I could try to make my own and save some money.
Also, planning my Halloween outfit, because it's OCTOBER! I've seen an event that seems pretty nice for this occasion, not just a regular club party. I'm not that much into drinking alcohol and I eventually get bored. We'll see how it will be.

On the other news, I am taking part in Inktober initiative for the first time. Follow one of my art accounts to see me trying to use ink~

Art of Horror

Have you ever heard about Zdzisław Beksiński? I have, a lot. I remember already from my childhood he was mentioned to be one of the greatest Polish modern artists. In October I heard about the new exibition about his paitings opened in Cracow. I managed to go there with friends. After waiting over an hour in a queue, we finally get there. Small place. Black walls. What I saw was one of the most amazing things. The works was displayed on glowing screens, making all the colors pop. This way one could see a whole spectrum of artists' skill. In the end I bought the album to take this experience to home :)

If you ever happen to be close to Cracow, go see this exibition. Don't think twice. You'll not be dissappointed.

Anyway, today I went to another exibition dedicated to Beksiński's creations, This time in Warsaw. It was a free session of Virtual Reality when you literally step into his paintings. It was a fascinating thing, it felt a bit like a strange realistic dream.
I present you some of the works in a book, but I assure you it doesn't do the justice to them.

Death and silence. Photography of Laura Makabresku

My first contact with her art was when I saw interview in a magazine. It caught my eye immediately, but then I forgot about it. It was until I saw her on tumblr, and then it got me into deeper interest. I'd like to share with you some of my favourite photos by an amazing photographer (who happens to be from my country). The photos are strange mixture of sensitivity and pain, death and silence. It reminds me of older times, ancient books covered in dust in the attic. There is also relation of human and nature. Animals, especially birds appear here often. Photos are sometimes disturbing and somewhat unpleasant to look, but in the same time absolutely beautiful.

Kamila Kansy, know as Laura Makabresku, born 1987 in Brzesko, is a self-taught photographer currently living in Cracow. She is a graduate in polish philological faculty. Her inspiration comes from her childhood, poetry and dreams. She collaborated with many magazines and took part in collective and individual exibitons.

There are many more to see on her official pages.

Calabria

Excuse me for my absence on this blog. I have just returned from a holiday travel with lots of good memories I want to share with you (with huge load of pics). I got the chance to see a south Italian region with my parents. I am satisfied with pretty cities and amazing nature I saw. I will remember this for long, I am sure.

Our first trip was to see the city of Tropea, the wonderful XVII century town situated on a cliff. It's filled with old palaces and restaurants hidden in small alleys. The church placed on an elevation near the coast is most characteristic point. The local red onions are sold everywhere. What is interesting, the city was bombed during the WWII, but all the 6 bombs remain unexploded. Sill, it's always shocking to me how people would want to destroy such beautiful places.

There was an Alice in Wonderland restaurant in a town. Of course I had to take some photos and eat there. Look at those clocks! So cute!

Another town we saw is Pizzo. Not as big as Tropea, it still has some secrets. the builing below is where Joachim Murat, the Napoleon's brother-in-law, was imprisoned and executed.

What are liked the most was Piedigrotta - a chapel build inside the cave near the coast. The sculptures located in such an unusual area are stunning.

The last trip was to Stromboli island - this time on ship. We were here from afternoon to night. The island is basically the one big (almost 1 km high) volcano which is active all the time - the eruptions take place every 10-12 minutes! Unfortunately, we didn't see the eruption, but laying on the ship at night and watching stars is an amazing feeling to compensate. The island also contains beaches with black sand and many, many lovely shops.

I loved the Calabria all together and I definetely hope to return here someday.

Mysterious Castle

May I present you my new work, a mystic castle. It took me a few hours to do, using ink and watercolor paint. I created a crooked mansion that a cartoon villain would live in, surrounded with hills and dead trees in the moonlight. I like the final outcome, do you?
